Basketball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Chula Vista Spartans

Otay Ranch is a perfect 10-0 against Chula Vista since November of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Otay Ranch Mustangs will challenge the Chula Vista Spartans at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Otay Ranch has six straight victories, Chula Vista has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Otay Ranch blew past Hilltop, posting a 62-28 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Maleah Porch continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 11 of 18 to rack up 26 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last nine games she's played. Anaya Carter was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 13 points and three steals.

Otay Ranch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Chula Vista played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 70-35 defeat at the hands of Eastlake. The Spartans were down 55-33 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Otay Ranch pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points over those games. As for Chula Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 7-17.

Everything came up roses for Otay Ranch against Chula Vista in their previous meeting last Friday, as the team secured a 63-27 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Otay Ranch since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
