Softball Recap: East Paulding Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but East Paulding had no problem doing just that on Monday. They put the hurt on the Newnan Cougars with a sharp 9-1 win. Considering the Raiders have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chloe Grier and Ansley Shiver did most of the damage at the plate: Grier got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Shiver went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Shiver has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Emma Spain, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

East Paulding always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newnan only posted an OBP of .235.

East Paulding is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Newnan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-18 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: East Paulding beat Newnan by a score of 18-5 later that day.
