Football Recap: Three Rivers Comes Up Short

Three Rivers dropped down to 4-5 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They were outmatched by the Santa Maria Cougars and fell 56-29. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Three Rivers had strong showings from Ethan Conn, who picked up 241 receiving yards and four touchdowns, and Paxton Soliz, who threw for 281 yards and four TDs. With that strong performance, Conn is now averaging an impressive 109.1 receiving yards per game.

As for Santa Maria, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.

Daniel Martinez produced another solid performance rushing for 397 yards and six scores while picking up 13.2 yards per carry. Those 397 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luis Otero, who picked up 26 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Looking ahead, Three Rivers will face off against Refugio at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Bobcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Santa Maria, they will square off against Premont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
