Baseball Game Preview: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Robinson Maroons

The Mattoon Greenwave will head out on the road to face off against the Robinson Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mattoon is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

On Monday, Mattoon came up short against Shelbyville and fell 6-3.

Mattoon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kamden Tinsman, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Robinson never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Lawrenceville with a sharp 12-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Maroons in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.

Graysen Brown tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Robinson is undefeated when Brown posts eight or more strikeouts, but 8-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Robinson let Hayden Bonnell and Reese Johnson run wild. Bonnell got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Johnson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Felix Reynolds was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Robinson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.

Robinson's record is now 11-13. As for Mattoon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-20.

Everything went Mattoon's way against Robinson when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Mattoon made off with a 9-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Greenwave since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
