Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Sherman

Sherman had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Centennial Titans with a sharp 13-5 win. The Bearcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Titans, too.

Austin Thurman looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sherman let Elijah Newton and Henry Bond run wild. Newton went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Bond went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Newton has become a key player for Sherman: the team is 3-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Mason Milks also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Sherman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Sherman's victory bumped their record up to 10-8-1. As for Centennial, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11-1.

Sherman and Centennial could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Bearcats will square off against Walnut Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (343 vs. 27). Meanwhile, Centennial (ranked 736th) will meet Frisco (ranked 339th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
