Preview: Frazier Commodores vs. Geibel Catholic Gators
Two dominant guards in Allie Yauch and Emma Larkin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Frazier Commodores will head out on the road to challenge the Geibel Catholic Gators at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Frazier has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Geibel Catholic will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Monday, Frazier was the victim of a tough 65-43 loss at the hands of Carmichaels.
Yauch put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 19 points along with eight steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Malana Burton was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Geibel Catholic put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They put the hurt on Jefferson-Morgan with a sharp 49-25 win. Geibel Catholic pushed the score to 42-15 by the end of the third, a deficit Jefferson-Morgan cut but never quite recovered from.
Geibel Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Larkin, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Larkin is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Henderson, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Frazier has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Geibel Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Frazier have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Geibel Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Frazier strolled past Geibel Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2021 by a score of 43-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Frazier since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
