Recap: Chavez Titans vs. Taft Wildcats
The Chavez Titans waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Taft 47-28. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chavez also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Chavez can attribute much of their success to Hannah Diaz, who scored 21 points along with four blocks. Another player making a difference was Chloe Lopez, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Taft's loss came despite strong showings from Shelby Gregory and Alaysia Taylor. Gregory scored 13 points along with nine rebounds, while Taylor scored six points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Chavez's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points per game. As for Taft, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chavez will take on Kennedy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Taft, they will head out on the road to challenge Wasco at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Wasco and three for Taft.
