Football Game Preview: Mill Valley Jaguars vs. Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars

The Mill Valley Jaguars will face off against the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shawnee Mission Northwest took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mill Valley, who comes in off a win.

It was a proper cat-fight when Mill Valley faced off against Lawrence on Friday. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 42-21 victory. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 21 points or more this season.

Max Piva had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 237 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Those 237 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Jay, who rushed for 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mill Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 356 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 288 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Shawnee Mission Northwest didn't have quite enough to beat Olathe Northwest on Friday and fell 31-28. The Cougars were up 21-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Mill Valley will have to contain Traimyre Woodruff as he made an impact in Shawnee Mission Northwest's last game. He rushed for 59 yards and two scores.

Shawnee Mission Northwest's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2. As for Mill Valley, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Mill Valley beat Shawnee Mission Northwest 14-7 in their previous matchup back in September of 2023. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
