Basketball Recap: Valley Christian Academy Victorious

Valley Christian Academy meant business on Friday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Conquerors squad that has allowed just 13.25 points per contest. The Valley Christian Academy Lions escaped with a win against the Coastal Christian Conquerors by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Conquerors, too.

Valley Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elle Mason, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Mason's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Isabel Salazar, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points along with six steals and five boards.

Valley Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Several Conquerors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jenna Starkovich, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Starkovich a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Bristol Machgan, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.

Valley Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Coastal Christian, they moved to 7-1 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Valley Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-13 win against San Luis Obispo Classical Academy on the 14th. As for Coastal Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-4 victory against Coast Union on the 14th.
