Preview: North Penn-Mansfield Tigers vs. Sayre Redskins
The North Penn-Mansfield Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Sayre Redskins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither North Penn-Mansfield nor Sayre posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.
North Penn-Mansfield struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Williamson had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. North Penn-Mansfield took a 43-24 bruising from Williamson.
North Penn-Mansfield's loss came about despite a quality game from McKenna Lightner, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. Lightner hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Sayre, who are still winless after their fourth match. They were beaten by Troy 60-19 on Tuesday. Sayre has not had much luck with Troy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Elizabeth Shaw was Sayre's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Meghan Flynn held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.
North Penn-Mansfield now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Sayre, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: North Penn-Mansfield have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Sayre, though, as they've been averaging only 17.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
North Penn-Mansfield couldn't quite finish off Sayre when the teams last played back in January and fell 27-25. Can North Penn-Mansfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
