Basketball Recap: Costa Mesa Comes Up Short

After flying high against Century on Monday, Costa Mesa came back down to earth. The Mustangs fell 49-45 to the Newport Harbor Sailors on Saturday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Sailors recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Despite the loss, Costa Mesa still got an impressive performance from Myah Martinez, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 33 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Terry, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Costa Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Newport Harbor, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Costa Mesa will challenge La Mirada at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport Harbor, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lompoc at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
