Mt. Vernon had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They secured a 48-42 W over the Triad Knights on Wednesday. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 43-27 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cale Maurer, who went 6-for-11 en route to 17 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Lucas Shelby, Jr. was another key player, shooting 46% from the field to rack up 20 points.

Triad's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Mt. Vernon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-41 victory against Mascoutah on the 29th. As for Triad, they have also already played their next matchup, a 60-56 win against Collinsville on the 29th.
