Soccer Game Preview: Newport Harbor vs. Huntington Beach

The Newport Harbor Sailors will take on the Huntington Beach Oilers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Newport Harbor is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They never let Fountain Valley onto the board and left with an 8-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Sailors have won eight games by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Huntington Beach waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Vikings. Given the Oilers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Vikings are ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sienna McAthy was the driving force of Huntington Beach's attack as she scored both of Huntington Beach's goals, bringing her season total up to 13 goals.

Newport Harbor is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those ten games. As for Huntington Beach, their win bumped their record up to 13-3-4.

Newport Harbor was able to grind out a solid victory over Huntington Beach in their previous matchup last Thursday, winning 2-0. Will Newport Harbor repeat their success, or does Huntington Beach have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
