Spalding is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Thursday. They will square off against the Trinity Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Spalding's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Manchester as they made off with a 16-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won four in a row.
Abigail Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Spalding got a massive performance out of Macie Robertson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Robertson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Hallie Cline was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Spalding was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in September of 2024.
Meanwhile, Trinity Christian had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over LaGrange.
Like Spalding, Trinity Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Mary Ruth Adkins. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Adkins a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shiloh Stewart, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah Ramer, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Spalding might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Trinity Christian when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
