Softball Recap: NEN Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact NEN can now relate to. They fell just short of the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for NEN in their meetings with Bishop Neumann: they've now lost eight in a row.

Mady Dolliver was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Zoey Duncan made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

NEN's defeat dropped their record down to 21-11. As for Bishop Neumann, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-8.

Looking ahead, NEN will take on Central City at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (NEN 3.6, Central City 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Bishop Neumann, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-7 win against Kearney Catholic on the 15th.
