Baseball Recap: Holy Spirit Prep's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Heritage Preparatory, Holy Spirit Prep was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the St. Mary's Academy Bobcats 8-1. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Andrew Wingate was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing seven bases while going 2-for-3. Those seven stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Harrison, who scored two runs and stole six bases while going 1-for-2. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.8 stolen bases per game. Dominic Wingate also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Holy Spirit Prep's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-1. As for St. Mary's Academy, they dropped their record down to 2-1 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holy Spirit Prep will host Rock Springs Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Mary's Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Atlanta Jewish Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
