Softball Recap: Chaparral Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Chaparral won the last time they faced Ralston Valley and things went their way on Saturday too. The Wolverines walked away with a 9-6 win over the Mustangs. The game was the first time the Wolverines have beaten the Mustangs on their field since October 24, 2015.

Grace Carpenter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Stevie Alvarado was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Keegan Freitas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Ralston Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Chaparral is taking a road trip to face off against Lakewood at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of. Ralston Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
