Football Game Preview: Dobson Mustangs vs. Sunnyslope Vikings

The Dobson Mustangs will face off against the Sunnyslope Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dobson has given up an average of 26.7 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Dobson is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Goldwater on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Mustangs had to suffer through a 36-6 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Dobson had strong showings from Joriyn Winston, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Preston Brunsvold, who threw for 92 yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sunnyslope). They blew past Ironwood, posting a 55-6 win. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Dobson better keep an eye on Kelton Rogers. He was instrumental in Sunnyslope's win, rushing for 106 yards and three scores on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Royce Vanacore, who threw for 68 yards and three TDs.

Sunnyslope didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brendon Camp and Joseph Lee. Lee has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played.

Sunnyslope's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Dobson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Dobson took a serious blow against Sunnyslope when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 44-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
