Recap: South Tahoe Vikings vs. Sparks Railroaders
The South Tahoe Vikings posted their biggest win since December 23, 2023 on Friday. They really took it to Sparks for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-25 victory on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-8.
It was another big night for Campbell Mathews, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. Ava Wolfe was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five steals.
Despite the defeat, Sparks saw an underclassman step up: Bailey Hunden scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hunden has scored all season.
South Tahoe is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Sparks, they bumped their record down to 3-9 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home.
South Tahoe won't have much time to rest: their next match is against North Valleys at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with North Valleys sitting on four straight victories and South Tahoe on three. As for Sparks, they will head out on the road to face off against Wooster at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Wooster is ranked 72nd, while Sparks is ranked 85th).
