The St. James Academy Thunder will head out on the road to square off against the Spring Hill Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. James Academy comes in on seven and Spring Hill on six.
St. James Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Shawnee Heights 57-28. The Thunder's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
St. James Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Niesen, who rushed for 88 yards, and also caught one score. Niesen showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 53 yards. Alec Jett was another key pass catcher, picking up 101 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Another reason for the win was St. James Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, while Spring Hill put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Harmon. The Broncos claimed a resounding 74-0 victory over the Hawks. Considering the Broncos have won eight matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The critical scores for Spring Hill came from Sylas Fulk, Cameron Wells, Bowen Callison, Maysen Dodson, Miller, Levi Shrum, Blake Caldwell, Hank Kotchavar, Rhett Worthen, Keegan Fulk, and Sam Abbott.
Spring Hill didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Slade Stewart, Shaw Stewart, and Jake Wyse picked up one apiece. Sam McMains was another major factor on D, forcing two fumbles and making six total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Spring Hill's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for St. James Academy, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 8-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. St. James Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 206.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Spring Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 252.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
