Basketball Game Preview: The Webb Schools Gauls vs. Samueli Academy Firewolves

The Webb Schools Gauls will face off against the Samueli Academy Firewolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (The Webb Schools has four straight wins, Samueli Academy has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

The Webb Schools is headed into the matchup having just posted their biggest victory since December 13, 2024 on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat First Baptist 55-23. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-12.

The Webb Schools can attribute much of their success to Sochika Ndibe, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 boards, and Pristine Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 19 times she's played. Chijioke Mgbeke was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

The Webb Schools smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 50 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Samueli Academy came up short against Capistrano Valley Christian on Tuesday and fell 36-25.

The Webb Schools has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points per game. As for Samueli Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
