Basketball Recap: Calipatria Takes a Loss

Calipatria played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 51-22 defeat at the hands of the La Quinta Blackhawks. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading La Quinta to victory were Leahnette Castro-Galarza and Sophie Barrow. Castro-Galarza almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine steals, while Barrow dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Castro-Galarza's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Julia Alvarez-Ladd was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Calipatria now has a losing record at 5-6. As for La Quinta, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7.

It'll be a Battle of the Bugs the Calipatria Hornets take on the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th. Calipatria is facing Palo Verde Valley at the right time seeing as Palo Verde Valley is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for La Quinta, they will host Palm Desert at 6:30 p.m. on January 6th.
