Basketball Recap: Mission Viejo Comes Up Short

Mission Viejo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a blow against the El Toro Chargers, falling 70-33. While losing is never fun, the Diablos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 997th, while the Chargers are ranked 328th).

Mission Viejo lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Savanna Whitesides, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 21 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Whitesides a new career-high in boards. Faith Harper was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

Mission Viejo's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for El Toro, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Mission Viejo didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-22 defeat against Beckman on the 14th. El Toro has also already played their next contest, a 61-48 victory against Tesoro on the 16th.
