Recap: Bishop Diego Cardinals vs. Santa Clara Saints
There's no place like home for the Bishop Diego Cardinals, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Santa Clara by a score of 45-32 on Thursday. Given Bishop Diego's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Santa Clara is ranked 1096th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Diego's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Diana Mendez led the charge by scoring 11 points. Mendez continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jiali Coronado, who scored 12 points.
Bishop Diego has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 18-4 record this season. As for Santa Clara, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-22.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Diego will take on Cate at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cate's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Bishop Diego's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Santa Clara, they will be playing at home against St. Bonaventure at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Bonaventure is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
