Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Granada

Granada's tournament run continued when they took on Ferndale on Saturday. The Granada Matadors walked away with a 44-36 victory over the Ferndale Wildcats. The win was all the more spectacular given the Matadors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 622nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 257th).

Ferndale lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Maddison Gossi, who posted nine points. Emily Sauers was another key player, putting up eight points.

The victory made it two in a row for Granada and bumps their season record up to 5-8. As for Ferndale, they moved to 8-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Granada will take on Los Banos in a tournament on Monday. Los Banos will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Granada surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ferndale, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Ferndale Wildcats face off against the San Domenico Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
