Football Game Preview: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Clay County Panthers

The Calhoun Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Clay County Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calhoun is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

On Friday, Calhoun took a blow against Buffalo, falling 63-26.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Charter Cottrell, who rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. Brennen Carpenter also helped out as he racked up 147 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Clay County challenged Logan on Friday. The Panthers fell 14-6 to the Wildcats. The contest marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Calhoun will have to keep a close watch on Joel Elliott and Jakoby Nichols, a pair of players who had a big impact on Clay County's prior game. Elliott picked up 184 receiving yards and one score, while Nichols picked up 102 receiving yards. Cooper Collins was another key player, having thrown for 362 yards and onetouchdown.

Even if they lost, Clay County's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Collin Elliott with two.

Clay County's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Calhoun, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Calhoun took a serious blow against Clay County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 55-14. Thankfully for the Red Devils, Noah Collins (who threw for 403 yards and six TDs while completing 91.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 30 yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time.
