Basketball Recap: Tamaqua Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Millie Black and Lauren Ligenza

Tamaqua has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 47-34 to the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes on Monday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-30 back in December of 2024.

Tamaqua's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lauren Ligenza, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards, and Millie Black, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Black is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games she's played.

Even though they lost, Tamaqua smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive games.

Schuylkill Haven found their leader in sophomore Kylie Siket, who posted 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Siket has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Anna Schaeffer, who put up nine points.

Tamaqua's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Schuylkill Haven, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Tamaqua has already played their next match, a 52-39 victory against Pottsville on the 16th. As for Schuylkill Haven, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-25 win against Panther Valley on the 15th.
