Recap: South Williamsport Mountaineers vs. Bloomsburg Panthers
The South Williamsport Mountaineers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. Their tough 48-26 defeat to Bloomsburg might stick with them for a while. South Williamsport was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-10.
When it comes to explaining why South Williamsport lost, one person who can't be blamed is Abby Akers. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Akers scored a full 73.1% of South Williamsport's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Brynna Zentner was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 19 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals for Bloomsburg. The contest was Zentner's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Bella Pistoia was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
South Williamsport has fallen quite a ways from their 22-7 record last season and are now at 0-3. As for Bloomsburg, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Williamsport's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Montgomery at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. Bloomsburg will be home for the holidays to greet Northeast Bradford at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northeast Bradford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 413th, while Bloomsburg is ranked 150th).
