Baseball Recap: Fall River Takes a Loss

Fall River had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-13 to make it eight. They lost 17-4 to the Rio Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Jayden Abegglen and Tyler Coloso did some serious damage despite the final result: Abegglen got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Coloso went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was Coloso's first of the season. Mason Powell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple.

As for Rio, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

On Rio's side, the team relied heavily on Miles Hall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one triple. Hall is becoming a predictor of the Vikings' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nolan Proebstle, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Fall River will take on Palmyra-Eagle at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
