Tre Larranaga has been thrown out just twice in 53 attempts.

Tre Larranaga is a throwback and a speedy one at that. The three-sport standout at Modoc (Alturas) leads California in stolen bases with 51, according to MaxPreps leaderboards.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior is also the school's quarterback on the football team — he accounted for more than 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in the fall — and a starter on the basketball squad.

The three-year starter in baseball his hitting .500 his senior year with 34 hits in 68 at-bats with 11 doubles and 24 RBI. It's on the base paths where he really stands out, having stolen at least three bases in 10 games for the 7-17 Braves.

Nobody else in the state has swiped 50 bases though Caden Shott of De Anza (El Sobrante) and William Stephens Jr. of Trona are getting close.

MaxPreps compiles leaderboards from statistics supplied by high school coaches from California and throughout the country.
