Football Game Preview: Irvin Rockets vs. Fabens Wildcats

Two dominant signal callers in Dallas Medina and Jesus Martinez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Irvin Rockets will face off against the Fabens Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Irvin has given up an average of 30.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Irvin is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Ysleta on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Rockets came up short against the Indians, falling 42-21. The Rockets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.

Although Irvin took the loss, they still got scores from Julian Chacon, Angel Valenzuela, and Marcos Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, Fabens hadn't done well against Clint recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wildcats slipped by the Lions 15-14.

Irvin better focus on containing Javier Hernandez and Julio Martinez as the pair were huge in Fabens' win. Hernandez picked up 137 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Martinez rushed for 69 yards on only six carries. Hernandez's longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Irvin and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Fabens, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Everything came up roses for Irvin against Fabens in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
