Basketball Recap: Campolindo Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Campolindo duked it out withLiberty on Friday. The Campolindo Cougars fell 57-47 to the Liberty Lions. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Lions are ranked 620th).

Shyanne Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Liberty, putting up 21 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lola Acosta, who posted ten points along with five boards and four steals.

Campolindo's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Liberty, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Campolindo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Branson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Liberty, they and St. Patrick-St. Vincent will face off at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. St. Patrick-St. Vincent has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
