Basketball Game Preview: Mount Union Trojans vs. Southern Huntingdon County Rockets

Mount Union is 2-8 against Southern Huntingdon County since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Mount Union Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Southern Huntingdon County Rockets at 7:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mount Union is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat West Branch 62-26. With the Trojans ahead 39-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Cailyn Skopic and Maddie Dimoff were among the main playmakers for Mount Union as the former dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 assists and the latter went 7 for 17 on her way to 20 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Skopic a new career-high in assists. Lilyan House was another key player, going 6 of 7 en route to 13 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Mount Union was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Southern Huntingdon County came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 70-47 win. The Rockets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 23 points or more this season.

Southern Huntingdon County has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Mount Union, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-11 record.

Mount Union was dealt a bruising 64-35 defeat at the hands of Southern Huntingdon County in their previous matchup back in January. Can Mount Union avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
