Basketball Recap: Carlsbad Takes a Loss

Carlsbad extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They fell 52-41 to the Rio Rancho Rams. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavemen/Cavegirls of the 48-47 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

As for Rio Rancho, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 61.3 points this season.

Cayden Richardson had a dynamite game, going 6-for-9 on his way to 12 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Noah Lovato, who posted ten points.

Carlsbad has already played their next matchup, a 60-26 victory against Deming on the 5th. As for Rio Rancho, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 80-31 win against Portales on the 5th.
