Basketball Recap: Sasha Hodge and Kylie Kent Secure Win for L.C. Bird

L.C. Bird barely beat Western Branch the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Skyhawks were the clear victors by a 60-38 margin over the Bruins on Saturday. The Skyhawks pushed the score to 48-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bruins cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading L.C. Bird to victory were Kylie Kent and Sasha Hodge. Kent almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards, while Hodge shot 47% from the field en route to 17 points and five steals. Kent is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 60% in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Kamari Simon, who posted eight points.

L.C. Bird smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Western Branch had strong showings from Suki Warden, who scored 15 points and eight rebounds, and Daania McGill, who earned six points and eight boards.

L.C. Bird's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Western Branch, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, L.C. Bird will be playing in front of their home fans against Powhatan at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Western Branch, they will square off against St. Andrew's Episcopal at 7:20 p.m. on Friday.
