Softball Recap: Fort Zumwalt South Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Timberland, Fort Zumwalt South was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 12-9 win over the Fort Zumwalt East Lions. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Ashtyn Duran and Brooklyn Chapman did most of the damage at the plate: Duran went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Chapman went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Chapman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Daniels, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fort Zumwalt South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Fort Zumwalt South's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Zumwalt East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Fort Zumwalt South will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Washington at 4:15 p.m. As for Fort Zumwalt East, they will square off against Warrenton at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
