Basketball Game Preview: Cathedral Catholic Dons vs. Scripps Ranch Falcons

The Cathedral Catholic Dons will challenge the Scripps Ranch Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Cathedral Catholic beat Morse 39-28. The Dons haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Scripps Ranch waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Centurions by a score of 40-29. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Centurions are ranked 561st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cathedral Catholic better focus on containing Clare Valentine and Ree Ree Davis as the pair were huge in Scripps Ranch's win. Valentine shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards, while Davis went 5 for 9 to rack up 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Valentine's evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Antonio, who posted five points and four steals.

Cathedral Catholic's win bumped their record up to 19-7. As for Scripps Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.

Cathedral Catholic and Scripps Ranch were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup on Wednesday, but Cathedral Catholic came up empty-handed after a 61-60 defeat. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Valentine, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 13 rebounds.
