Baseball Recap: Sharpsville Find Success

The matchup between Sharpsville and Slippery Rock on Friday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Blue Devils walked away with a 12-7 win over the Rockets. For the Blue Devils, this counts as revenge for the 1-0 victory the Rockets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2025.

KAYDEN WYGANT made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. WYGANT was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, JARED BISSELL was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Sharpsville's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). DOMINIC TARNOCI was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Sharpsville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Slippery Rock struck out seven times.

Sharpsville now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Slippery Rock, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4.

Looking ahead, Sharpsville will venture away from home to take on Mercyhurst Prep at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lakers will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight. Slippery Rock does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
