Basketball Recap: Monument Academy Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Monument Academy had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were dealt a 61-27 defeat at the hands of the Fountain Valley Danes on Tuesday. The Lynx were down 41-17 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Fountain Valley had a senior duo take command as Jaden Lopez-Hardy almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds and Juneseo Cho went 6-for-8 to rack up 19 points. Lopez-Hardy's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Buck Pettinos, who posted seven points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.

Fountain Valley has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Monument Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 41-32 loss against Miami-Yoder on the 10th. As for Fountain Valley, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Peyton at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026.
