Newton-Conover took a 21-point loss the last time they faced off against Bandys, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Devils won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Trojans 36-35.

Newton-Conover found their leader in sophomore Jeremiah Pope, who rushed for 238 yards and one touchdown while picking up 13.2 yards per carry. Those 238 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Pope.

Newton-Conover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 169 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brady Swett, who threw for 253 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 88 yards and one score. Swett has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Ryder McClure was in the mix too, providing Bandys with two touchdowns.

Newton-Conover now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Bandys, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Coming up, Newton-Conover will welcome North Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Devils are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Bandys, they will venture away from home to challenge Foard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
