Basketball Recap: El Cajon Valley Piles Up the Points Against Monte Vista

El Cajon Valley hadn't done well against Monte Vista recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The El Cajon Valley Braves claimed a resounding 61-22 victory over the Monte Vista Monarchs. The Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 32 points or more this season.

El Cajon Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Asia Marie Dixon out in front who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Dixon has scored at least a third of El Cajon Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Kiyara Millice, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 10 points in addition to eight boards and six steals.

Monte Vista's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Knikole Steward, who posted nine points.

The victory (which was El Cajon Valley's third in a row) raised their record to 15-9. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points over those games. As for Monte Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 16 of their last 17 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-22 record this season.

El Cajon Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-26 win against Mount Miguel on the 14th. As for Monte Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 61-25 defeat against Valhalla on the 14th.
