Football Recap: Newton Railroaders vs. Great Bend Panthers

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Newton can now relate to. They took a blow against the Great Bend Panthers on Friday, falling 49-14. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Panthers are ranked fourth).

Although Newton took the loss, they still got scores from Kaleb Jacobs and Nikko Hinojos.

Great Bend had a senior duo take command as Ian Premer gained 118 total yards and four touchdowns and Daxton Minton rushed for 146 yards and a pair of scores. Minton showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 68 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Holladay, who rushed for 96 yards on only seven carries.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Great Bend, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Newton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Great Bend, they will face off against Bishop Carroll on Friday.
