Preview: Segerstrom Jaguars vs. Tesoro Titans
The Segerstrom Jaguars will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Tesoro Titans at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Segerstrom has four straight victories, Tesoro has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Segerstrom has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 30 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Los Amigos 66-36 at home. With Segerstrom ahead 35-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Stephanie Valenciano had an outrageously good game as she scored 26 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Quero, who scored 8 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, Tesoro managed to keep up with Sunny Hills until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Tesoro's tough 51-28 defeat to Sunny Hills might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Tesoro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 838th, while Sunny Hills is ranked 409th).
Their wins bumped Segerstrom to 5-1 and Los Amigos to 4-3.
Segerstrom was taken down by Tesoro 79-45 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Segerstrom, Celine Castaneda (who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 23 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
