Football Game Preview: Great Bend Panthers vs. Garden City Buffaloes

The Great Bend Panthers will challenge the Garden City Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Great Bend has seven straight victories, Garden City has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Great Bend is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Hays, who was ranked 13th at the time (Great Bend was ranked fifth). The Panthers blew past the Indians 43-19 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six contests by 24 points or more so far this season.

Ian Premer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 134 yards and three scores on only nine carries, while also picking up 113 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 134 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Daxton Minton was another key player, rushing for 57 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

Meanwhile, Garden City was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 20-14 to Dodge City.

Garden City's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Great Bend, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.

Everything came up roses for Great Bend against Garden City in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-6 victory. In that game, the Panthers amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
