Baseball Game Preview: Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes vs. Social Circle Redskins

The Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes will square off against the Social Circle Redskins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe Area has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Monroe Area and Stephens County meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Monroe Area lost 14-4 to Stephens County. The Purple Hurricanes have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

Parker Sims was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Parker Ashley also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Social Circle put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Alcovy a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Redskins have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Social Circle's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Monroe Area, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
