Softball Recap: Luella Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Luella waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Douglass Astros with a sharp 21-3 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-0 on Tuesday.

Zaena Harris made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in September of 2024.

In other batting news, Jamiah Barnes was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Mikayla Thurman was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Luella kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Luella's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Douglass, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Luella will venture away from home to take on Jackson at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.6, the Red Devils 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Douglass, they will take on North Clayton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
