Football Game Preview: New Castle Trojans vs. Delta Eagles

New Castle hasn't had much luck against Delta recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will challenge the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. New Castle has given up an average of 28.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

New Castle is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Yorktown on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Trojans took a blow against the Tigers, falling 44-6. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-6.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delta). They put the hurt on Mt. Vernon with a sharp 40-20 win on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Eagles have posted against the Marauders since September 14, 2018.

New Castle better keep an eye on Aven Thomas. He was instrumental in Delta's win, rushing for 173 yards and three scores while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Thomas is now averaging an impressive 104.4 rushing yards per game.

Delta was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Delta's defense made their presence known, laying out Mason Meyer. five times. In that department, Cole Mynett was the leader with two sacks.

Delta's record now sits at 2-3. As for New Castle, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

New Castle skirted past Delta 16-14 in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
