Football Preview: Alexander Bulldogs vs. Eagle Pass Eagles
Two dominant backs in Jose Fernandez Iii and Luis Flores are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Alexander Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Eagle Pass Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Alexander is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 48 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Medina Valley on Friday. They took a 14-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.
Alexander wouldn't let Medina Valley keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Alexander can thank Hector Benavides and Mateo Ca?amar for forcing both of them. Benavides is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season. Caleb Palomo was another major factor on D, making 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Eagle Pass, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They came out on top against Laredo LBJ by a score of 24-17 on Friday.
Flores continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 140 yards and a touchdown.
Alexander now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Eagle Pass, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Saturday's matchup might be decided in the on the ground. Alexander has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 193.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Eagle Pass struggles in that department as they've been averaging 174.2. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Alexander was able to grind out a solid win over Eagle Pass when the teams last played back in October of 2023, winning 28-20. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Eagle Pass' Andres Villarreal, who threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 68 yards.
