Soccer Game Preview: Saint Mary's vs. El Cerrito

The Saint Mary's Panthers will head out to challenge the El Cerrito Gauchos at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Saint Mary's faced off against Albany on Tuesday. Saint Mary's fell 2-0 to Albany. Having soared to a lofty five goals in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, El Cerrito hasn't lost a match since December 10, 2024, a trend which continued in their latest game on Tuesday. They put the hurt on De Anza with a sharp 4-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Gauchos, who have now won six matches by three goals or more so far this season.

El Cerrito has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 39 goals over those six games. As for Saint Mary's, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1-1 and their overall record down to 7-3-1.

Saint Mary's skirted past El Cerrito 1-0 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saint Mary's since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
