Basketball Game Preview: Polytechnic Panthers vs. Hart Hawks

The Polytechnic Panthers will be taking part in a tournament against the Hart Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hart took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Polytechnic, who comes in off a win.

Polytechnic is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Flintridge Sacred Heart: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Panthers blew the Tologs out of the water with a 68-25 final score. With the Panthers ahead 37-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Polytechnic found their leader in sophomore Maggie Scholze, who almost dropped a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. Scholze is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Areni Ohanian, who posted 14 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Hart had to start their season on the road on Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 42-31 to Holy Martyrs Armenian.

Polytechnic was taken down by Hart 69-30 in their previous meeting back in November of 2021. Thankfully for the Panthers, Elyse Mitchell (who went 6-for-10 en route to 19 points and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
